Welcome to Urbana, Iowa, one of Iowa's fastest growing communities. Growth that is no accident!
Urbana combines a favorable location, a business ready planning philosophy and substantive development actions designed to encourage and attract growth.
From 1990 to 2000, the community's population increased in excess of 70%. Although still a small city with a little over 1200 residents and growing, Urbana's leadership has prepared the community for business, residential and personal growth.
How many communities could absorb a 70% increase in its population the way Urbana has? Growth that's been accommodated without stress on local schools, on local utility services, or on city services or resulted in critical housing shortages?
And, today there are still ample available new housing lots along with fully developed industrial sites and commercial interstate highway parcels.
Make no mistake, location means a lot and in the case of Urbana that is doubly true. Accessed by two interchanges to I-380 and located midway between two larger Iowa cities Cedar Rapids (120,000 residents) and Waterloo/Cedar Falls (124,000 residents), Urbana offers convenient access to urban conveniences without the corresponding urban inconveniences.
But location is only part of the story. Being able to take maximum advantage of a fortunate geographical location is critical! Urbana's done that! Urbana's schools, recreational facilities and housing opportunities measure up well to those found in its larger neighboring cities. In fact, these assets plus lower taxes, safer lifestyle and responsive governmental services are among the reasons people are choosing to live and grow in Urbana.
With many of Urbana's residents driving daily to neighboring cities for employment, an opportunity certainly exists to attract a large number of these out-commuting residents to new jobs created in the community.
Welcome to a community that not only welcomes growth, but also has planned for it! Click any of the topic bars at the top of the page to learn more specifics about what Urbana has in place to meet both your business and personal needs. Thanks for visiting!
